About us

The centenary tradition of the families Velan and Anđelini

Grapevine and wine have for centuries been a part of the culture and life of the inhabitants of central Istria, as well as Velanov Brijeg inhabitants and the families Velan and Anđelini. The area of Velanov Brijeg is a hill and a village bearing the same name, located south of the town of Pazin at 474 meters above sea level. The proven quality of our wines is a blend of specific climate, soil, technology, and especially love and respect for the grapevine. In 1924, Ciril Velan has built a house and a family basement where wine is produced for own use and for sale.

Vineyards with various varieties are planted, especially indigenous varieties Malvazija, Brajdenica and Teran. In 1997, Ranko, a young agronomist, significantly increased grape and wine production, new vineyards were planted and the cellar expanded. Today, we have 70.000 vines of various varieties, especially Malvazija, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Teran. We are constantly technologically improving production in order to make it more sustainable and leave a smaller footprint on the environment. We are gradually phasing out the use of herbicides and mineral fertilizers and introducing organic fertilizers, green fertilization and other interventions that lead us to a better final product and a healthier Earth.

Beekeeping and honey products

Besides the production of wine as the main product of our economy, we also produce honey and other bee products. Beekeeping is also a decade-long tradition of this family. In addition to wine production as the main product of our economy, beekeeping also represents a decades-long tradition of our family. The offer includes honey and other bee products. Acacia is the most common honey, but we collect chestnut, linden and honeydew honey, depending on the local conditions.
